Many business owners get so busy that they fail to plan for their business growth which can lead to serious systems challenges that will restrict their success.
Establishing a Planning Session
A business planning session should be facilitated by an accountant or business coach/adviser. The session should have a clear agenda and result in an action plan and accountability for its implementation.
A suggested way to conduct this planning session is:
· Work through your core values and goals and then agree to a 10-year target. From there decide on 5-year and then 1-year and quarterly goals. Set some key priorities and decide how you will measure your progress.
· Assign accountability to members and set KPIs.
· Hold quarterly team meetings where you update, revise or raise the bar on goals.
· Conduct weekly team meetings where every team member provides a brief update on progress.
· Have a daily 10-minute meeting with your team and make a commitment to each other to what you plan to achieve this day. ‘What’s up?’, ‘Where are you stuck?’
Something that works really well in these team meetings and encourages team-work is acknowledging each other for work that has been done or support that has been received.
Following this process can drastically improve the way in which the business is managed and can lead to substantial business growth over time.
As the business owner it is critically important that you take time-out from working ‘in’ the business and spend some quality time planning your business and personal future.
